Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask about Scribl, the free vector drawing app. Still curious? The drawing guide walks through a whole drawing.
Is Scribl free?
Yes. Scribl is free to use, with no account, no ads and no watermark on anything you export.
Do I need to install anything or sign up?
No. Scribl runs in your web browser on computers, tablets and phones. You can also install it as an app from your browser if you want it on your home screen or dock.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit, Scribl keeps working without an internet connection.
Where are my drawings saved?
In your browser, on your own device. Drawings save themselves as you work, with their undo history, and appear in the gallery. Nothing is uploaded. Because browser storage can be cleared, use File, Back up all drawings now and then to save everything as one zip file.
What can I export?
SVG and PNG (at 1x, 2x or 4x). You can export the whole page or crop to the artwork, drop the background, export only the selection, or copy the SVG code or the image to the clipboard. Export also makes wallpapers (desktop, 4K, ultrawide, phone or tablet sizes, with a frame you drag to pick the crop) and a timelapse video of the drawing appearing shape by shape. You can also save a drawing as a .scribl file to open later or on another device.
Can I open or edit an existing SVG?
Yes. Import an SVG file or paste SVG code, and its shapes become paths you can keep editing.
Does it support drawing tablets and pen pressure?
Yes. Pen pressure can control line width and opacity. Once a pen is detected, fingers pan and zoom instead of drawing, so a resting palm doesn't leave marks. The pen's side button pans the page.
Can I use my own color palettes?
Yes. Import palettes from PNG, SVG, PAL, ASE (Photoshop), paint.net TXT, GPL (GIMP) or HEX files, keep them in your palette library, and export them again in any of those formats.
Can I use what I draw commercially?
Yes. What you draw in Scribl is yours, to use however you like.
Is Scribl a replacement for Illustrator or Inkscape?
For drawing illustrations, often yes. For typography, print layouts or technical drawing, a full design suite is the better tool. Many people draw in Scribl and finish in another app using the SVG.
